The Italian magazine "Guerino Sportivo" lists Sindelar among the best 50 players of the 20th century. Sindelar, also known as “der Papiererne”, played for Austria Vienna and won the Mitropa Cup twice with Austria (1933 + 1936). For the Austrian national team he made 43 international appearances in which he scored 26 goals. He reached the semi-finals with Austria at the 1934 World Cup. Provenance: Richard Hofman, one of the stars and the enfanterrible of German football, got this shirt directly from the Austrian star Matthias Sindelar after the game on September 13, 1931. Exchanging shirts was completely unusual at this time; it is not documented whether Hofmann gave Sindelar his shirt. Richard Hofmann later gave this shirt as a gift to Ernst Fritsch, the former tenant and former “patron” of Dresdner SC. Mr. Fritzsche ran the stadium casino from the 1930s to the 1950s before he had to give it up (expropriated). Richard Hofmann and other DSC Dresden players gave Mr. Fritsche a lot of souvenirs. Hofmann also gave Mr Fritsch, among other things, the DFB shirt from the England game in 1930, another DFB international shirt in white from the 1930s and this Sindelar shirt. In 2012 the Fritsch family decided to give away this shirts. The Sindelar shirt was sold directly to a German collector, who owned it until 2024.
