Since 2019, FIFA has decided to discontinue this competition and replace it with the FIFA Club World Cup tournament, which will be held for the first time in 2025. Until 2012, the Confederations Cup had a square base like the present example. From 2012, the trophy was re-designed and received a round base. In 2001, the French association received permission from FIFA to produce a smaller copy of this trophy for the French FA President Claude Simonet (1930-2023; 1994 to 2005 President of the French Football Association Fédération Française de Football (FFF). The high-quality copy was made by Arthus-Bertrand. After their victory in the 2001 Confederations Cup, the players of the French teams received a 12 cm high copy of the trophy in addition to the winner's medal. A copy of this size is an absolute rarity! For copyright reasons, the trophy could not be reproduced in its entirety, and the lapis lazuli base had to be omitted.
